Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's initial attempts at becoming a star in the mainstream did not succeed. She has been signed by 2 distinct recording companies, but was dropped before releasing any of her songs. Capitol Records, however, released Perry's Ur So Gay album in 2007 which was received with only modest approval for the album's title track. The song I Kissed a Girl a straightforward ode expressing sexual curiosity backed with a hardedged electro pop beat brought her more attention within a couple of months. It was a controversial song and critics were critical of the song for promoting relationships between gay men as well as others who claimed it portrayed a racy scene that appealed to male fantasies about female sexuality. I Kissed a Girl became a worldwide number-one hit due to its combination of excitement and an elegant melodic tune. It also helped her sell more albums, including The One of the Boys. The sharp, bouncey second track was extremely popular. The album Perry composed in large part sold more than three million copies.
